Lightning in brief ...

The Loughborough Lightning setup is a franchise owned by Loughborough University, with supports from East Midland Netball.The franchise is based at the University and the team is made up from current students, Loughborough graduates and regional players. With England stars Ama Agbeze and Jade Clarke playing for Lightning and ex-England captain Olivia Murphy leading the team Lightning will be challenging for the Cooperative Netball Super League title in 07/08, as well as competing for honours in the Netball Talent League.

The franchise was a completely new venture for the start of CNSL and shows the University commitment to developing elite netball. Lightning is looking to use the comprehensive training facilities and support structure at the University to attract the best players to the East Midlands and grow the best East Midlands talent. Lightning’s success on court and off-court can be seen in a 40% growth in home crowds and the addition of a Development Squad to the club structure for the 06/07 season, followed by entering a team in the Netball Talent League in 07/08.
